Day 1
I woke up on Sunday, April 3 groggy and tired. It was just after 8 am. Like most people my age, waking up at that time is not the norm. Especially considering I was so excited the night before that I didn't manage to fall asleep until almost 2:30 in the morning. So it was with great effort I managed to get out of my bed and stretch.
It took me less than a few seconds, however, to remember just why I was waking up that early. And soon, all grogginess and tiredness dissipated with the speed of a traffic light turning green. Instead, my mind had been replaced with the same excitement and joy that had occupied it in the preceding weeks. I was dressed within minutes, and extra sets of clothes were packed along with a bag of general hygiene products into a suitcase. I was so excited to hit the road that I was ready to leave by 8:35.
Too bad my parents weren't. I had forgotten I wasn't leaving for at least another hour.
So instead I sat. Then I stood up. And I sat down again. I ate a bowl of cheerios. I like cheerios. Especially with bananas. As it was Sunday, I read the Sunday comics. This has been routine since I was at least 7 years old. I love the Sunday Funnies. But even as I read the comic strips my mind kept going back to Katie. And it brought smiles to my face. For the first time since we met online all those months ago, I was going to finally meet her. And my heart soared.
Finally, we were out the door. 5 hours of driving awaited me before I could see her. And in some ways, it was agonizing. I remember the route that leads to Vegas, having traveled on it many times. There's this one long stretch of road that has many hills and bumps. Going over them feels like being on a small roller coaster. I wasn't sure whether the feelings in my stomach were caused by driving on this road, or were the result of a combination of nerves and excitement.
I texted Katie for about an hour and a half, keeping her updated on where I was and how far we were. Eventually I had to turn my phone off to conserve the battery lest it died and I couldn't talk to her until arriving at my destination. In the few hours I had my phone off I busied myself with reading one of my favorite books. Before long it was lunch time. My parents took me to In-N-Out Burger.
Oh man. I love In-N-Out! Double Double animal style with fries and a Dr. Pepper? I swear, I need to live by this restaurant in my future home.
As satisfied as I was with my lunch, I was more anxious to get back on the road. I'd waited so long, I couldn't wait much longer. So we were soon driving again, but Vegas was still at least 120 miles away. *sigh*
An hour and a half later, I looked up to see that we were coming up to a sight I've seen many times. The stateline! We were about to cross the border into Nevada! At that point, it was only 45 miles to go! I turned my phone back on and texted Katie, so happy were we both that I was so close! So close! The closer I got, the more agonizing it became for both of us. I was all for driving straight to her house while my parents went off to get a hotel room.
We were coming up to the strip. The strip is seriously one of the most amazing sights you could ever see, and the interior of most of these hotels is beyond fantastic.
Unfortunately, I did not go straight to Katie's house. Instead, my parents got off on the strip to find a hotel first. The wait became almost unbearable at this point. I remember impatiently walking around the casino floor as my dad sorted out registration. I occupied myself with watching the slot machines, feigning interest until I finally tore away. I think it was at that point I was visibly agitated. I tried to keep my composure, but it was getting difficult.
Thirty minutes later, we finally left our hotel room and I was officially on my way to her house! At that point, I was incredibly nervous. It was finally here. I would finally see Katie beyond a computer screen. I would finally kiss her and hold her in my arms. As excited as I was, I cant deny I was nervous beyond all reason.
The drive from the strip to her house was about 20 minutes. I drove the way so that I could familiarize myself with the location since I'd be driving back and forth a lot in the coming days.
Soon, I parked outside her house in the driveway. I remember my heart was beating faster than I could ever remember it doing so. My legs were shaking from pure nerves and utter excitement. I climbed the steps and rang the doorbell.
It was pure bliss. Katie threw herself into my arms and we kissed for the first time. And not just sweet little kisses. It was full on passion and fiery, the result of love built up over months and months of never being able to release it before now. We hugged. And in that moment, I was the happiest man alive. This moment was for us and us alone.
We broke apart reluctantly. Silly me had forgotten that my parents were waiting out on the driveway, hoping for the chance to meet the amazing woman I've told them so much about. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.
Before long, my parents left. And Katie and I spent our first moments together, alone. Needless to say, there was lots of intense cuddling and kissing, all the while our faces were likely plastered with the goofiest of grins, the happiest of expressions. Could you blame us? All I know is that in those moments, nothing existed for me but the girl I was currently holding in my arms, kissing with all the passion I could.
The next couple hours passed in a haze as the two of us just cuddled and kissed, so happy and so joyful to finally be together. We broke away from ourselves long enough to make fajitas. I thought my mom's fajitas were awesome. The ones Katie and I made together were beyond anything. And so for the first time, we cooked together. Dinner took some time to make -- as more kissing and hugging got in the way. We put on some Disney music and sang "A Whole New World" from Aladdin together. It was beautiful harmony. I didn't think I could love her more, but in those moments I fell harder. Katie was absolutely perfect.
And to think, it was only the first day.

Spring Break!
As of today, it is officially Spring Break. I had school off yesterday only because it was Cesar Chavez Day, so that didn't officially count as the first day.
It's been a long and hard ten weeks of school so far. From pulling all nighters to massive projects, and from late night snacks and numerous cups of coffee, I've been keeping busy. Finishing off my projects for Color Theory and turning them all in on Wednesday felt like the last day of school -- which, unfortunately, only reminds me that there's still a lot of work to do and at least a month left to go before it's all said and done.
Still, Spring Break has come and it's going to be amazing! On Sunday I'll be leaving for Las Vegas to see Katie! I'm super excited, more than I can remember being excited for anything in a long time. It's going to be amazing to see her after all this time waiting, and we have so much planned!
I really need to get back into posting. I need to come up with some ideas to give me something to write about. If only school wasn't taking up the bulk of my time. But then, I'm sure I'll have plenty of things to write about once I'm back from Vegas!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

2010 - Looking Back
I initially wanted to make this post tomorrow, but I discovered I won't have time since I'm working much of the day and then I'll be out the rest of it with family. So, I'm taking a bit of time here now to look back on this past year, with some highlights of many memories -- both good and bad.
January:
Actually, I don't remember too much happening in January. I do remember my classes during that semester being really fun and exciting, and January was when they all started. I took two English courses and continued my studies of animation and other related art fields. My sister turned 18 on the 13th, and as of that day everyone in my household are officially adults. It's a strange feeling.
December:
This year definitely went out with a bang. School ended, and my grades were some of the best I've had in a long time, which I'm proud of because I was struggling when the semester started. After weeks of planning, my grandpa arrived two days before Christmas and spent the holiday with us. Christmas Eve was a quiet family at home night, while Christmas Day saw the whole family over with us again. I got lots of new clothes as well as The Amory Wars comics, so that I can finally understand Coheed's concept. It was, truthfully, the best Christmas I've had in years. The day after Thanksgiving we had a potluck. This past Tuesday, the grandchildren took our grandpa out deep sea fishing. We caught 85 fish that day and grandpa showed us how to clean and fillet them! And yesterday, we had a massive fish fry. Today, my grandpa went home. It was truly a wonderful week and month, and I'm kind of sad it's over. However, I'm also happy. I'm the happiest I've ever felt in a long time thanks to a very special someone who's made me feel like the luckiest guy in the world.
2010 was probably one of the best years, or at least that I really remember. I had more good moments than bad. Even those moments where I felt like giving up were overshadowed by all the good that happened. To this, I wish you all a wonderful and happy new year in 2011!

February:
There were two big events during this month. The first was seeing Alice in Chains in concert at the Hollywood Palladium, my third time seeing them. All the brothers went, including my sister-in-law's brother, just a guy's night out. I love Alice in Chains. In fact, they are second only to Coheed and Cambria. That was a kickass night, and they played all their best hits. The second big thing was my nephew James' 3rd birthday. His parents have thrown him wonderful parties for his birthday every year, and the little guy's been growing into a cute little kid. I'm so excited to see where he goes from here on out. March:
Very little happened in March. My brothers Tim and Steven had their birthdays, ten days apart, Tim turning 22 and Steven turning 34. One of the things I've kinda liked is how Steven was born on St. Patrick's Day, and thus was given the middle name Patrick. I always remember this every year.April:
This was by far one of the best months. Oh, where to start... Spring break came along, and my friends, my brother, and I went on a one day camping trip. Short, but so worth it. Sloppy Joes are amazing! Easter Sunday with the family, good food and lots of entertainment as it always is. It was also the month of the release of Coheed's latest album, Year of the Black Rainbow. My love for this band has grown so considerably that this was arguably the first Coheed record I was really looking forward to. April also saw my participation in Relay for Life, a massive cancer fundraiser. My team and I raised over $1000 for it, and the event itself was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to it next year! And finally, it was my niece Rachel's birthday. She turned 1. I adore her so much. Having a niece, in some ways, is such a special thing. Since then, she's becoming a cute and very outgoing little girl, and I'm just as excited to watch her grow up.May:
By far, the highlight of this month was seeing Coheed and Cambria live for the first time in nearly four years. In support of their recently released album, the band played many songs off the new record and some old hits. As it was also the first time seeing them live where I knew all the songs, this was a far better experience than the first time I saw them in 2006. Mother's Day was also really nice. It was nothing extravagant, just some simple gift giving to my mom, but she had a wonderful time. The only other highlight was school letting out for the summer.June:
I barely remember anything that happened during June, except for Father's Day, which was more or less like Mother's Day. Just something simple with the family alone. I also saw Iron Maiden in concert. Totally awesome!July:
I love barbecues, especially fourth of July barbecues. And when they're done at my Steven and Christy's house, you know you're in for a fun time! The only crappy part was my phone falling into the pool, but that was quickly made up for with a cool new one within a week!August:
I saw Coheed and Cambria another time. In fact, it was four years exactly to the day I first saw them. It wasn't quite a similar epic experience during the time I saw them in May, but it was still awesome. I can't express in words alone how completely amazing it is to be that close up to the guys as they jam. August was also my mom's birthday. She's a trooper. My mom is one of the most amazing people I know. She's been through a lot, much of which should never happen to anyone, but she presses on. For that, I can never thank her enough. August is also the month of my other nephew -- and James' baby brother -- Cole. He turned 1 year old. He's a shy little guy, but I swear his laugh is the most precious thing I've heard. And as I look back on the year, you know what the best thing about this month was? I met Katie.September:
School was back by now. Most of my classes proved they were no pushovers, as work began to pile up. However, I alleviated much of this by playing a lot of Zelda with Katie. We're total nerds, we know it, but it's so much fun to play along to a game with someone. :) I also started blogging, and I've grown to really enjoy writing my thoughts down.October:
October was rough. There were many moments during this when I felt at my worst, and many people I know were feeling down as well. There were some good points though. My twin brother, Jonathan, and I turned 21, and celebrated the following week by going to Vegas with Steven and Tim. It was a small trip but so well worth it. I'm not really one for gambling, but just the thought that I can do it legally is quite the cool feeling. Halloween was boring, largely because I was working that night and it was really slow. I played even more Zelda with Katie during this month, and we finally kicked the crap out of Ocarina of Time!November:
The first bit of the month wasn't too great, but it picked up after a while. It was stressful and very overwhelming in terms of school and work, but I pressed on. My dad had his birthday. There are a lot of issues between my dad and... well, pretty much everyone. Some are for good reason. In spite of this, I know he's only trying to do what he can, and no matter what happens, I'll always be proud of the fact that he helped raise me to be who I am. Thanksgiving was a wonderful event. I love when my family comes over to our house; it's roomy, plenty of space, and there's a lot to do in the different rooms. And such amazing food!December:

The First in a Long Time
For the first time in years, I actually feel excited for Christmas.
I'm not really full of Christmas spirit, but I'm at least ready for a fun day tomorrow.
Christmas hasn't always been the most exciting thing for me or my family. For my mom and my older brother, it usually brings out a lot of sadness for reasons I won't get in to. For the rest of the family, the Christmas season of several years ago marked a turning point that has left the family more divided than ever.
Despite the fact that this is supposed to be "the most wonderful time of the year", full of merry and jolly people, I see more cranky and moody people than I do others. Perhaps it's because of the strain it puts on us -- trying to make ends meet to get your loved ones presents. In this particular economy, this is probably even harder.
However, in spite of all that, I feel happy for the first time in a long time.
Maybe it's because my grandpa is spending it with us, the first time he's ever done so.
Maybe it's because I actually truly wanted something this year, instead of half-assing a Christmas list full of items I couldn't care less about.
Maybe it's because I've felt happier than I have in months thanks to people I've met, things I've done, and things I'm looking for.
Whatever the reason(s), I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'm not letting anything damper my mood. I may not be in the Christmas spirit per se, but I can start to get it back by feeling happy about it.
I'll try to get to another song review after Christmas. Until then, to all of you out there, Merry Christmas!

Christmas Lights!
My family put up Christmas lights over previous weekend. I wanted to take pictures and post them up here much earlier, but I never got around to it. Tonight, in the spirit of the holiday season, I present a Christmas light display.

There are actually a lot of these pictures, but I'm not gonna post all of them. Happy holidays, everyone!

The Tagging Game!
Kate over at Simply Kate tagged me in a game that appears to be ongoing so far amongst bloggers. The rules are fairly simple: eight questions are passed along to another blogger (it appears to be roughly eight people every time). Each one must answer the questions that have been posed. Once done, they must come up with 8 different questions and pass them along to other bloggers.
Well, I only have one follower and I'm sure she's the only person who reads any of this as of right now. But, I'll go ahead and play this little game anyway, just for kicks. Let's get started, shall we?

1. If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
Jack Danyells. Without a doubt. It's badass! Seriously, when someone would go to say it, it just seems to reek of awesomeness, and not just because of it's similarity to the alcoholic drink of a similar name.
2. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
"A circle has no beginning." Yes, I stole that directly from Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. It's really the coolest answer for this question. The important thing, though, isn't which of them came first. The real question is, "How do you like your chicken and eggs?" And the answer to that is barbecued and over-easy, respectively.

3. Do you smash the wedding cake in each other's faces or not?
I always thought about this, and I used to think yes. But, I'm not sure I'd want to smash the cake in her face; I don't want to ruin her dress and hair. However... smashing it in my face? Different story altogether.
4. If you could play any character in a movie, who would it be and why?
Anakin Skywalker, if they re-made the Star Wars prequels while I was still young. For one, it was always something I wanted to do; act in a Star Wars film. Though I'm by no means great, part of me feels I could still pull off a better performance than Hayden Christensen did. And it would just be awesome, plain and simple.

5. What would your super hero name be?
Captain Mayo. Childhood super hero name, 'nuff said.
6. There's a monster in your house. Do you go into the attic?
I have no attic. This question doesn't apply to me. Psh!
7. Would you rather be forced to scream at the top of your lungs for an hour everyday or have earlobes the size of basketballs?
Scream at the top of my lungs. I'm pretty good at that. The oversize ears would just kill me.
8. If you had to eat a crayon, what color would it be?
If we're including unusual colors, then raspberry red. Seriously, I saw it on a crayon once. I love raspberries, so it's the best I can think of.
Alrighty! So, I've answered these questions. I'm supposed to come up with eight of my own, so I'll give it my best shot. Here they are:
1. Who is your favorite musical artist and which song of theirs is your favorite as well?
2. The Zombie Apocalypse is upon us! How do you react?
3. Do you play any instruments? If so, what and for how long?
4. What would you say is your biggest pet peeve?
5. Do you think Mr. Feeny the best fictional teacher of all time? Why or why not? (If you have no idea who this is, you missed out on an amazing show.)
6. Snowboarding or skiing? If you've done neither, then what sport would you say is your favorite?
7. What color lightsaber would you choose to have? Any color works!
8. Would you rather be trapped on a small deserted island for a day with your worst enemy, or trapped in an elevator for hours crammed with people?
